Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyí, the Ghana Education Service (GES), in a statement issued on Monday, December 1, reminded students, parents, and schools that Ghana is transitioning from the Ghana-only WASSCE to the international version, which will be written by all West African member countries in May/June 2026.
Introducing the new phase of examinations, the Service said the change demands stronger preparation from candidates. “As Ghana moves away from the Ghana-only WASSCE … to take the international WASSCE, written by all West African member countries in May/June 2026, Management of GES admonishes students to prepare very well for the examination,” the statement read.
GES also stressed that it would continue to protect the integrity of the country’s examination system, adding that there would be no relaxation of rules or procedures. “Management of GES will not compromise the integrity of examinations,” Fenyí noted.
The Service assured the public that it will continue to collaborate with relevant institutions as the country prepares for the regional exam. “GES will continue to work closely with all stakeholders, heads of schools, teachers, students, parents, communities, Civil Society Organisations and WAEC, to improve teaching and learning and the integrity of the examination,” the statement added.
The clarification comes after former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum suggested that GES policies may have contributed to this year’s WASSCE performance. The Service dismissed these claims and urged the public to focus on factual information regarding the conduct and outcome of the exams.
GES maintains that the 2025 WASSCE results accurately reflect the academic performance of candidates, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen supervision, curb malpractice, and ensure credible assessments.
