The Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) has completed the preliminary screening of film entries for its maiden 2025 edition, with 64 films shortlisted from a total of 121 submissions received from 21 countries across Africa and beyond.
According to organisers, the final list of nominees will be officially announced on 13th November 2025, ahead of the festival and awards ceremony scheduled for 10–13 December 2025 in Accra, Ghana.
The initial screening, conducted between 20th and 28th October 2025, evaluated films across various genres and categories. The Academy of Screeners assessed entries based on originality, storytelling, technical quality, creativity, and cultural relevance. The process was overseen by a panel of screeners made up of film scholars, critics, and industry professionals from Ghana and other parts of the continent.
The final screening phase is currently being handled by the Regal Film Festival Jury Team, who will determine the nominees in each category.
Festival Director Selassie Ibrahim expressed appreciation to all filmmakers who submitted their works, describing the diversity and quality of entries as remarkable.
“We are thrilled by the growing participation and the remarkable storytelling talent emerging from Africa and the Diaspora. The 64 films selected represent some of the finest creative voices redefining African cinema today,” said Dr Jim Awindor, Head of Jury.
The Academy and Jury comprise professionals in filmmaking, academia, and film criticism from across Africa. The first edition has attracted an exciting range of films representing the richness of global cinema.
The Regal Film Festival and Awards aims to celebrate excellence in African filmmaking while offering a platform for creative exchange, industry networking, and recognition of outstanding talent within the film ecosystem. The awards ceremony will take place on 13th December 2025 at the Palms Convention Centre in Accra.
