The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has called for the vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to proceed without delay.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Thursday, Mr Tanko-Computer stated that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is capable and prepared to assume the role.
“Let us allow the process, he is a fine gentleman, Baffoe-Bonnie is a learned person and he is ready to do the job of a Chief Justice,” he said.
His comments come in response to the minority in Parliament’s motion to the Speaker to halt the vetting process until all legal issues surrounding the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo are fully resolved in court.
The minority argues that the matter must be settled before a new substantive head for the judiciary is confirmed.
He questioned the New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament’s stance on the matter and urged them to allow the procedure to continue.
“I don’t see the interest of the minority in this matter. In any case if we are going to measure them with the same standard their holding on this people, the things they did in the eight years, legally, everything about them is just bad and so I am saying that, let us allow this (vetting of Justice Baffoe-Bonnie) to go on.”
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie has been nominated by President John Mahama to lead the judiciary following the suspension of Justice Gertrude Torkonoo on grounds of misconduct.
She is currently challenging her suspension at the ECOWAS Human Rights Court.
