Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment George Opare-Addo says he is hopeful about Ghana’s future because today’s young generation has shown the ability to lead and excel in various fields.
Speaking to Joy Learning TV at Plan International Ghana’s Girl Takeover initiative in Accra, the minister said giving young people opportunities to simulate leadership roles boosts their confidence and prepares them for future positions.
“For me, I think we should be able to do more of such simulations so that it will also encourage other young people to tell them that when they aspire and dream, they can achieve what others have achieved. It gave me hope; it told me there is a future for this country,” he said.
He noted that the ‘Girl Takeover’ initiative perfectly aligns with the government’s vision of nurturing a new generation of responsible, capable and confident youth who can take charge of national development in the years to come.
He added that exposing young people to real-life leadership experiences not only inspires them to dream big but also helps them understand the responsibilities that come with leadership.
“The idea gives young people the opportunity to experience leadership firsthand, to learn, to make decisions, and to understand the impact of those decisions. When they get that exposure early, it builds a mindset of service and responsibility,” he explained.
The minister commended Plan International Ghana for continuously creating such platforms for the youth, especially girls, to build their leadership potential.
He emphasised that with the right mentorship and opportunities, Ghana’s youth will not only take over from the current generation but also build a stronger, more progressive nation driven by innovation and compassion.
