The Women of Valour initiative, founded by media personality Nana Aba Anamoah, on Tuesday held an emotional event dubbed “Seats of Strength” at the Alisa Hotel in North Ridge, Accra.
The gathering brought together hundreds of breast cancer survivors, women currently battling the disease, health professionals, and supporters to share experiences and encourage one another. It formed part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which focuses on early detection, stigma reduction, and support for those affected.
In her address, Nana Aba Anamoah underscored the need for unity and resilience among women facing breast cancer. “To every woman fighting, every woman healing, every woman standing in support — we want to remind you that Seats of Strength is here for you,” she said.
Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) Secretariat, delivered an uplifting message to survivors and those still undergoing treatment. “To those still fighting, you are not alone, your battle is our battle. Your scars are not symbols of defeat, they are marks of survival,” she stated.
The event also highlighted the importance of creating safe spaces where people can share their stories without fear of judgment. Organisers believe that by speaking openly, survivors can inspire others and help dismantle the stigma surrounding the disease.
A highlight of the programme was the announcement that some breast cancer survivors had won a fully funded trip to London to take part in the upcoming Women of Valour event in March next year.
This gesture, according to organisers, demonstrates Nana Aba Anamoah’s continued commitment to empowering women and promoting breast cancer awareness.
